Building Careers Targets Manchester

Building Careers has been in business in West Lancashire for nearly 20 years – take a look at the milestones here on our brand new website – we’ve had major offices before in different locations, including an international base in the United Arab Emirates, closer to home in Liverpool and Manchester in Media City, and now we’ll see Building Careers relaunch in a city where I’ve been doing business for as long as our company has been trading; Manchester.

During my recent visit to Manchester, it was impossible to ignore the presence of cranes, the building developments coming out of the ground and the swell of people in and out of site cabins. This of course, points to the city's growth trajectory and my aim is to take our business to a higher level. The visuals and business in the city prompted further introspection, leading to the realisation that establishing a further Building Careers residence back in Manchester is not just prudent but imperative.

We are building something special within our company and coming back to the city is the right move for us. We’ll release more details in due course, but the timing couldn't be more opportune for us, especially when observing the flurry of building activities unfolding across the city.

Outside of the capital it is the fastest growing economy in the UK, with Leeds – another Building Careers office destination – hot on its heels. The Northern Powerhouse is growing, and the construction recruitment market will benefit from that growth, especially in an election year when we expect to see more activity, more business, more buildings and construction and high growth.

There’s no shortage of projects in the city and surrounding areas and at Building Careers we have no shortage of people. There aren’t many competitors that can boast a 100,000 person database and a growing sales team that will hit the Manchester market pretty hard.

As the city evolves, so does its construction market, and recent developments indicate a burgeoning demand for expertise in the field. Only last week we landed two pivotal roles for a dynamic Manchester construction company: a Procurement Manager and a Quantity Surveyor, which my team are sourcing. This particular construction company wants to work with the best - that’s why they’ve come to us. Having a heavy presence with desks in the city and in touching distance of the big Tier 1’s, is something we’re looking forward to getting our teeth into and a business like this one will feel the benefit.

We are partnering already with some of the biggest names out there but one noteworthy development that encapsulates Manchester's construction momentum, and one Building Careers is looking to be a part of,  is the University of Manchester's Construction Works Framework 2023.

This framework delineates projects into four distinct lots, catering to a spectrum of scales and budgets. Notably, the smallest lot is dedicated to projects ranging from £1 to £450,000, highlighting a niche yet significant segment of the market. Conversely, the largest lot encompasses schemes valued between £5 million and £20 million, indicative of the city's appetite for ambitious ventures. Henry Brothers Construction, GMI Construction Group, and Conlon Construction are among the contractors who have landed a spot on the work programme and we’ve worked with all of them at one point or another.

There are others success stories too in neighbouring Salford, where Stonebond and Great Places Housing Group have teamed up to develop six acres of land at Manchester Road West in Little Hulton. Further on in Oldham, Hive Homes is all set to redevelop four brownfield sites in Derker, bringing forward a mixture of mews, semi-detached, and detached residences. This, as we know, will be in touching distance of our city centre base.

The decision to expand Building Careers' presence in Manchester not only aligns with market trends but also signifies a commitment from me, as owner of the business, and a message of our intent to shake the construction recruitment market up.

If you want to speak to me about Manchester or would like to work with our recruitment experts in the city, please get in touch direct.
